For too long, finding trusted, high-quality Black-owned services across sectors — from healthcare to hospitality — meant piecing together word-of-mouth recommendations, scattered social media posts, and outdated lists. This week, Emerald Book is changing that by announcing the addition of more than 1,000 newly listed Black-owned businesses to its flagship interactive map and mobile app.
The expansion spans multiple states and includes Black-owned restaurants, gyms, yoga studios, clothing stores, medical practices, law firms, dental offices, mental health therapists, and much more. Every listing is verified for accuracy and owned and operated by Black entrepreneurs, making this the most comprehensive, trusted, and usable digital map of its kind.
Unlike general review apps that deprioritize minority-owned businesses, Emerald Book's business map and mobile app use human-led curation and community validation. Every listing page includes hours, contact information, service descriptions, and direct links to book appointments or place orders. Users can filter by category, location, Black-owned certification, and essential services including Black doctors, lawyers, dentists, and much more.
Beyond Dining and Retail: Healthcare, Law, and Wellness Take Center Stage
While the directory features vibrant Black-owned restaurants and boutique clothing stores, the most significant growth appears in essential services. More than 120 Black-owned mental health therapists now appear on the map, addressing the critical need for culturally competent care. Likewise, the platform lists over 80 Black-owned law firms and 65 Black-owned dental practices — categories historically underrepresented in legacy directories.
Fitness and holistic wellness also received major investments. Users can now locate Black-owned gyms, personal trainers, yoga studios, and meditation centers in their neighborhoods. Several listings feature sliding-scale pricing and virtual class options, improving access for underserved communities.
How to Explore the New Listings and Register Your Business
Emerald Book's business map and mobile app are completely free to use. No paywalls, no ads, and no data selling. Anyone can visit the website or download the app, search by location, and immediately connect with Black-owned businesses in your area. Each listing includes direct links to websites, appointment booking, delivery ordering, or directions.
Black business owners who are not yet listed can register in under five minutes. Emerald Book offers a one-time listing fee of $399.99, which covers a lifetime membership, map placement, mobile app visibility, and more.
Early user feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Entrepreneurs report increased foot traffic and appointment requests within days of listing. Customers praise the ability to find Black-owned therapists, lawyers, and even urgent care centers without endless searching — especially using the Emerald Book mobile app, which provides location-based alerts and one-tap directions.
A Living Directory, Not a Static List
Emerald Book plans to add hundreds more businesses each month. Unlike printed directories or outdated PDF lists, Emerald Book's business map and app update in real time. Business owners can edit their hours, add new services, post job openings, and share events directly through the platform. Users can report outdated information, keeping the directory accurate and useful.
The Emerald Book mobile app — already available for download on iOS and Android — takes the experience further with no-click location-based search, one-click directions, and direct calling. Users can discover Black-owned businesses near them instantly, whether they're looking for a coffee shop, a dentist, or a yoga class.
Whether you use the web-based map or the mobile app, Emerald Book offers the most powerful way to discover and support Black-owned businesses across America. Looking for a new favorite restaurant? A culturally competent therapist? A reliable auto mechanic? A boutique law firm? Emerald Book puts Black excellence at your fingertips.
